Metals Inc. sells two basic types of fiberglass-
reinforced-plastic (FRP) gratings: compression -molded (square mesh and
rectangular mesh) and pultruded. Each type provides the fundamental advantages that make
FRP a better investment than steel for most applications:
- maintenance free
- lightweight, easy to install
- doesn't fatigue or creep, stays flat for safe walking
- nonconducting and nonsparking (high-conductance, anti-static grating
is available
In addition, pultruded gratings provide a
high degree of strength and corrosion-resistance not found in conventional gratings.
The primary considerations that affect
grating selection are:
Load/Deflection:
This is normally the starting point for
grating selection. The type of grating (rectangular-mesh or square mesh) interrelates with
the layout of the support structure because of the difference in span directions.
Chemical Compatibility:
Metals, Inc. gratings offer excellent corrosion resistance within
the capability of the specific resin system used. Resin systems, however, have different
chemical compatibilities.
Fire - Retardance:
Fire-retardance is a function of the resin system used for the
grating.
Special Considerations:
There are options available on special colors, resin systems and
non-skid surfaces.
GRATING OPTIONS:
| Korgrit®
non - skid surface Wear-resistance, silica-textured surface provides sure-footing and good
traction in extremely oily or icy conditions. Korgrit meets all OSHA specifications for
non-slip, aggregate surface applications. On Kordek gratings, the Korgrit is applied to
the wider bottom surface and the grating is installed inverted (strength and deflection
properties are not adversely affected). Custom resin systems
Compression -molded and
pultruded grating can be made using resin systems to meet specific requirements.
Custom colors
Any available resin system can
be pigmented to produce the color of your choice.
Korfloor
Solid FRP panels are
factory-laminated to the top grating surface, bottom surface, or both. Korfloor is used
whenever open-mesh gratings are undesirable. Available in smooth and Korgrit surfaces. |

Korglowgrating glows in the dark
Korglw FRP grating provides an extra dimension of safety in
areas where sudden loss of lighting would leave workers groping in the dark. Korglow
immediately glows bright enough to allow workers to find their way to safety. Korglow is
an enhanced-safety version of IGI's proven Korlock high - modulus pultruded grating. The
phosphorescent material is applied during pultrusion and will never wear off the grating
nor lose its luminescence as long as it is regularly exposed to light.
Stair Treads
Stair treads are made from sturdy 1 1/2"
compression-molded grating. Two styles are available: Filled-nose and angle-nose. Non-skid
Korgrit® aggregate surfacing is
standard on both, in compliance with OSHA Specification 1910.24f. Call toll-free for
